Fresh from leaving the army and intent on completing his college education, Lou Downes began a fledgling swimming pool company in 1970. His purpose was to have the company pay for his education. But by 1974, when he graduated, the business had become substantial and included several employees. In order to grow the company, Lou expanded beyond maintenance and into pool construction.

Because he believed in uncompromising quality, Lou’s pool company began to attract high end residential architects and custom builders, as well as commercial developers and management professionals who were responsible for ongoing pool maintenance.

Today, Downes employs over 80 design, construction, and maintenance professionals and is among the largest and best respected quality swimming pool companies in the nation. The company designs and consults worldwide, and builds pools year round, even as snowflakes fly!

Lou’s son Mike has joined the family business and is carrying its traditions of style, quality, and service into the 21st century.

Downes Swimming Pool gives a 25 year structural warranty, the strongest in the industry.  We warrant that the pool will remain structurally sound for 25 years from the date of plastering.  We also give a 3-year limited warranty on pool and spa pumps, heaters, and filters (labor and material).  The original owner may transfer that warranty upon payment of a transfer fee, taking the hassle out of selling your home.  Note that specific terms, conditions, and exclusions are spelled out in our construction agreement.
